Agreement and eligibility

These Terms of Use govern killmetadata.com and the KillMetadata browser application. By using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service. You must be at least 13 and legally able to enter this agreement. If you use the service for an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind it.

What the service does

KillMetadata provides static browser software that inspects supported file structures, creates a separately named copy, and scans that output again. The original is not overwritten. A “verified-clean” result means no supported privacy metadata remains under the active handler’s full coverage; it is not a promise that a file is universally or forensically metadata-free.

A “partial” result means a known cleanup completed but at least one carrier or embedded payload was not covered conclusively. A “rejected” result means the service did not produce an approved download. You are responsible for reviewing the result and deciding whether it is suitable for your purpose.

Limited permission to use KillMetadata

Subject to these Terms, you receive a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable permission to access and use the service for lawful personal or internal business purposes. This permission does not transfer ownership of the service, its branding, design, or software.

Your files and responsibilities

• Use only files you own or are authorized to process, and comply with privacy, copyright, employment, records, and export laws that apply to you.
• Review visible content, comments, revisions, attachments, signatures, filesystem attributes, cloud copies, and any partial coverage warning separately.
• Keep a safe original until you have opened and validated the cleaned copy in the software that matters to your workflow.
• Do not rely on filename extensions alone; use the format reported by the scanner.

Prohibited conduct

• Do not use the service to violate law, another person’s rights, a court order, or a contractual duty.
• Do not interfere with the site, evade safety limits, deliver malware, conduct abusive automated traffic, or attempt unauthorized access to infrastructure.
• Do not misrepresent a partial or rejected output as having been conclusively verified by KillMetadata.
• Good-faith security research is welcome when it avoids privacy harm, data destruction, and service disruption and is reported responsibly.

High-risk and regulated uses

KillMetadata is not a professional redaction service, records-management system, e-discovery tool, medical service, or secure-erasure product. It is not offered under a HIPAA business associate agreement. Do not use it as the sole control for protected health information, consumer health data, legal privilege, classified information, regulated evidence, or a decision affecting someone’s rights or safety.

Signatures and provenance

Cleaning may remove or invalidate digital signatures, C2PA manifests, provenance records, document IDs, or integrity checks. The service requires confirmation when it detects supported signature or provenance structures, but detection cannot cover every private scheme. Preserve a signed original whenever authenticity matters.

Changes and availability

Formats, limits, features, and availability may change. KillMetadata may suspend or discontinue the service, reject unsafe inputs, or change a handler when needed for security or correctness. Offline cached software may remain on your device until the browser updates or clears site data.

Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available.” KillMetadata disclaims implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted availability, and error-free operation. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so those limitations may not apply to you.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, KillMetadata will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, reputation, revenue, or opportunity arising from the service. KillMetadata’s aggregate liability for a claim relating to the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid for the service during the 12 months before the event or US $100.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and mandatory consumer protections remain available.

General terms

If part of these Terms is unenforceable, the remaining terms stay effective. A failure to enforce a term is not a waiver. You may not transfer these Terms without consent; KillMetadata may transfer them as part of a legitimate reorganization or service transfer. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and notices presented in the processor form the agreement about the service, subject to rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.

Changes to these Terms

Updated Terms will be posted here with a revised date. Continued use after an effective change constitutes acceptance where permitted by law. If a change materially reduces your rights, additional notice will be provided when reasonably required.
