WHY THE ENGINE MATTERS
Tags are removed around the audio stream
MP3 tags sit before or after MPEG frames; FLAC uses metadata blocks; WAV stores RIFF chunks; M4A uses BMFF boxes; Ogg Vorbis, Opus and FLAC use bounded comment packets. Each handler removes supported descriptive carriers while retaining codec-critical data.
Artwork is removed by the privacy-default profile. Gapless and codec headers are preserved because deleting them can introduce playback gaps or make a file unreadable.

Are my files uploaded?
No. The cleaner runs in your browser, has no upload endpoint, and only enables the file picker after its processor assets are available locally.
Is the original file changed?
No. KillMetadata reads the original and creates a separately named cleaned copy. It never overwrites the source file.
Does cleaning change the audio quality?
Supported handlers copy encoded frames or samples rather than re-encoding them, so metadata cleanup does not introduce codec loss.
Is album artwork removed?
Yes when it is stored as a supported metadata carrier. Artwork and thumbnails are part of the privacy-default removal profile.
