- Supported EXIF, GPS, XMP and text metadata
- Camera, software, author and copyright fields
- Descriptions, comments and editing dates
- Embedded thumbnails where the active handler supports them
IMAGE METADATA REMOVER
Remove metadata from an image
Image, picture and photo searches cover many containers: JPG/JPEG, PNG/APNG, WebP, GIF, TIFF/BigTIFF, HEIC/HEIF and AVIF. KillMetadata identifies the real format from its bytes, shows each supported carrier, and verifies a separate cleaned copy.
THE CLEANING PLAN
Remove what exposes you. Keep what makes the file work.
Every field is shown before the rewrite and classified by action and coverage.
- Compressed image or pixel payload
- A minimal orientation record when a supported EXIF orientation is present
- ICC and essential color information
- Transparency, frames and animation timing
- HEVC/AV1 codec-level metadata units inside HEIC/AVIF image payloads
- Visible faces, text and landmarks
- Steganography and perceptual fingerprints
- Filesystem attributes and cloud copies

WHY THE ENGINE MATTERS
“Image” is a search term, not a file format
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, TIFF, HEIC and AVIF use different metadata structures. KillMetadata selects a bounded handler from the file signature instead of applying one generic delete operation.
Unsupported or ambiguous carriers produce partial rather than verified-clean. TIFF/BigTIFF has a strict bounded writer and verifier; HEIC/HEIF and AVIF remove supported container metadata but always finish partial because codec-level metadata units are not parsed.

A four-step privacy check.
Metadata cleaning is one part of a safe sharing workflow.
- 01Confirm the detected image format
- 02Review every Remove and Review item
- 03Create the separate cleaned copy
- 04Open it and check the verification status
QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
Know the boundary before you clean.
No vague “100% clean” claim.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The cleaner runs in your browser, has no upload endpoint, and only enables the file picker after its processor assets are available locally.
Is the original file changed?
No. KillMetadata reads the original and creates a separately named cleaned copy. It never overwrites the source file.
Which image files can be cleaned?
This build rewrites JPG/JPEG, PNG/APNG, WebP, GIF, TIFF/BigTIFF, HEIC/HEIF and AVIF. TIFF can reach verified-clean when fully covered; HEIC/HEIF and AVIF always return partial because codec-level metadata units are not parsed.
Is this also a picture metadata remover?
Yes. “Image,” “picture,” and “photo” commonly describe the same privacy task; the actual file signature determines which engine runs.
The picker opens only after offline protection is active.
