WHY THE ENGINE MATTERS
A DOCX file is a structured ZIP package
The handler reads relationships and XML parts with strict parsers, cleans package properties and supported author attributes, then rebuilds the archive. Unchanged entries pass through rather than being interpreted as plain text.
Macro-enabled packages and supported disguised-macro signals in payload names, content types, and relationships are rejected. Comments and tracked changes are not treated as simple metadata because their content may be important; only supported attribution fields are cleaned.

Are my files uploaded?
No. The cleaner runs in your browser, has no upload endpoint, and only enables the file picker after its processor assets are available locally.
Is the original file changed?
No. KillMetadata reads the original and creates a separately named cleaned copy. It never overwrites the source file.
Does this delete comments or tracked changes?
No. Their author attribution can be cleaned where supported, but comments and revisions are document content and remain unless you remove them in Word.
Can it clean DOCM files?
No. Macro-enabled or disguised macro packages are rejected because rewriting them can create security and integrity risks.
