Remove supported metadata from a HEIC photo
HEIC and HEIF photos can carry Exif camera or location data, XMP packets, item names and thumbnails around the coded HEVC image. KillMetadata removes supported container carriers without decoding or recompressing the photo, then verifies the rewritten container.

WHY THE ENGINE MATTERS
HEIC cleanup is useful, but verification stays partial
The handler validates the HEIF item graph, locations, references, properties and non-overlapping extents. Supported metadata items are made inert while the retained coded image digest is checked after rewriting.
HEVC codec-level metadata units are preserved but not parsed in this build. For that reason every HEIC or HEIF output is labeled partial and requires explicit confirmation before download; KillMetadata never presents it as verified-clean.

Are my files uploaded?
No. The cleaner runs in your browser, has no upload endpoint, and only enables the file picker after its processor assets are available locally.
Is the original file changed?
No. KillMetadata reads the original and creates a separately named cleaned copy. It never overwrites the source file.
Why is every HEIC result partial?
Supported container metadata is removed and coded HEVC bytes are hash-checked, but metadata units inside the HEVC bitstream are not parsed, so full verification is not possible.
Is HEIF the same as HEIC?
HEIF is the container family and HEIC commonly refers to HEIF images encoded with HEVC. KillMetadata checks the actual brands and primary item type instead of trusting the extension.
