WHY THE ENGINE MATTERS

QuickTime metadata appears in more than one box tree

The MOV handler scans legacy user-data atoms, keyed mdta items, timestamps, sample descriptions and track handlers. Known privacy boxes are replaced or zeroed without shifting media essence.

A retained codec payload, unknown UUID, metadata track or ambiguous box produces partial. DRM/CENC is rejected rather than rewritten.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The cleaner runs in your browser, has no upload endpoint, and only enables the file picker after its processor assets are available locally.

Is the original file changed?

No. KillMetadata reads the original and creates a separately named cleaned copy. It never overwrites the source file.

Does MOV cleaning re-encode the video?

No. Supported container fields and bounded H.264 user data are patched without decoding or re-encoding picture or sound.

Why can a MOV result be partial?

A MOV may contain timed metadata, private UUID boxes, or mixed and unsupported codec data that cannot be removed conclusively by a metadata-only rewrite.
